During the 2001/2002 academic year he held appointments as Visiting Professor in the Chemistry Department at California Institute of Technology and the University of Sydney. He also had a visiting appointment at Osaka University in 2006 and 2007. Dr. Kadish received the ACS Southeastern Texas Section Award in 1987, the Sigma Xi Faculty Research Award from the University of Houston Chapter in 1988 and the University of Houston Research Excellence Award in 1991.  Dr. Kadish was also three times commended (1990, 1991 and 1993) and awarded recognition by the Mayor and City Council of the City of Houston for his continued academic accomplishments and leadership at the University of Houston. In 2003 he was awarded a Docteur Honoris Causa from the Université de Bourgogne in Dijon France. In 2012 he received the Hans-Fischer Lifetime Award in Porphyrin Chemistry, which was given at ICPP-7 and sponsored by the Hans-Fischer-Gesellschaft and in 2017 he was selected as the first winner of the Prix Franco Américain, a joint award from the American and French Chemical Societies.

Dr. Kadish's research interests are in analytical chemistry, porphyrin chemistry, chemistry and electrochemistry of compounds having biological interest, redox reactions of transition metal complexes, redox reactions of dinuclear metal-metal bonded complexes, spectroelectrochemistry and fullerene chemistry.  He has published over 635 research papers and edited more than 100 books while directing a research group, which, in total, has numbered over 160 different postdoctoral associates and graduate students, 47 of whom have received a Ph.D. and 37 an M.S. degree under his direction..  Dr. Kadish is a member of several professional societies and served as a member of IUPAC from 1979 to 1997, first on the Electroanalytical Chemistry Commission V.5 from 1979 through 1991 and then the Analytical Division Committee from 1992-1997.  He is the founder and first President of the Fullerenes Division of the Electrochemical Society and since 1994 has organized or co-organized more than 25 symposia on the topic of fullerenes and carbon nanomaterials. He was also a co-organizer of the First, Third, Sixth, Ninth and Tenth International Conference on Porphyrins and Phthalocyanines (ICPP-1, ICPP-3, ICPP-6, ICPP-9 and ICPP-10) which were held in Dijon, France (2000), New Orleans, LA (2004), Santa Ana Pueblo, New Mexico (2010), Nanjing, China (2016) and Munich, Germany (2018). Dr. Kadish is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Porphyrins and Phthalocyanines (JPP) and also serves as President of the Society of Porphyrins and Phthalocyanines (SPP), a position he has held continuously since June 2000. His co-edited 4000 page, 10 volume series of books entitled The Porphyrin Handbook was selected as the Best Chemistry Book of 1999 by the Association of American Book Publishers and this was followed by another 10 volumes of The Porphyrin Handbook published in early 2003 by Academic Press.  After a short break from editing, Dr. Kadish resumed his activities in this area and 45 totally new volumes were published between 2010 and 2019 under the title Handbook of Porphyrin Science. This is in addition to 21 more books in three series of volumes entitled: (i) Handbook of Carbon Nanomaterials, (ii) Chemistry, Energy and the Environment and (iii) From Biomaterials Towards Medical Devices.
